Composer, lyricist,
singer and multi-instrumentalist Xavier François Baudet was born in 1975 in
Groningen, The Netherlands. In 1994 he co-founded Amateur Home Surgery with
interior decorator René Prins and cartoonist Peter Vianen and released Close
Your Eyes And Think Of England as The Hari Flamingoes in 1998.
In 2001 Xavier Baudet produced the soundtrack for The Leiden English Freshers'
rendition of Shakespeare's A Midsummernight's Dream. He co-wrote three songs
with William Shakespeare for LEF's Much Ado About Nothing. Two of these were
sung by young Lara Stanisic, who (much) later won Leiden University's
singer/songwriting contest `Nootuitgang'.
Meanwhile he released Scrambled X in 2003 and became a clubcircuit
sessionmusician.
Baudet plays piano, organ and guitar in the locally popular JIJ-BAND, he is a
parttime bassplayer in De Roodborstjes and a fulltime member of DUSK, the band
behind writer/tv-personality Ad Verbrugge.
When Amsterdam group The Cry Ugly released their album Representatives Of The
Shaggy Set in 2005, Baudet provided backingvocals and he performed a
Christmassong with their frontman Andrew Vroomans on NCRV Dutch Television in
December 2005. In March 2006 Baudet was elected (or appointed?) "Talent Of The
Week" by NCRV's internetradiostation "Ongekendtalent".
Later that month a TV audience of 15.000 watched Xavier Baudet as he appeared to
dedicate his song `She's A Bitch' to one of the candidates in Leiden's
Citycouncil Electiondebate, thus causing a rather hilarious situation.
In April 2006 RTV West (the largest broadcaster in the Rotterdam/The Hague area)
dedicated two hours of airplay to Baudet and his music. Shortly afer this
programme, fashion designer and Frans Molenaar Couture Pricewinner Edwin
Oudshoorn invited him to create the soundtrack for his upcoming catwalkshow
“Doodsgewoon”. This show and Baudet’s soundtrack opened the summeredition of the
Amsterdam International Fashionweek in July 2006.
Meanwhile, Xavier Baudet and Marcel Boeré produced Lara Stanisic' entry for the
`Ontzettend Leiden' compilation, due for September 2006. His own song `Choose'
will also appear on that album.
On Sundaynight August 27th 2006, Baudet, Ad Verbrugge, Richard Neuteboom, Edwin
Turk and Humphrey Teerlink (a.k.a. DUSK) will appear on VPRO Dutch Televison,
with an expected audience of approximately 800.000 viewers.
